Q. Can you work from a concept sketch?
Yes. We have often worked with a variety of raw material from clients, including accurate scale plans and drafts, existing models and CAD files. We can create a 3D model from a hand drawn sketch, but in order to have it accurately to scale we would need proper dimensions and measurements. The purpose of a concept sketch is to outline a specific design and indicate how the design problem is to be solved. They are called “concept” sketches because the drawing should convey ideas about how to solve the problem, but they do not involve the level of detail (or thought) that goes in to final (production) drawings. They are “sketches” because architects/engineers build actual physical objects (buildings/automobiles/machinery), and pictures are better at capturing information than words. It is easier to figure out a drawing than reading a lengthy text based description. Concept sketches are used at the beginning of the design process to quickly discover different ideas and to narrow down the search for a practical and effective solution.
