How cool it would have been to name this article‘The 7 Wonders of New SketchUpPro 7’, but then this new version has at least 10! Those of you who have been having fun with SketchUp are now going to double the fun. Here are the top ten features of this great tool.
A new bunch of "smart" objects (Dynamic Components) are going to make beginners very happy. These components know what they are. For example, if you have a dynamic staircase and don’t want to bother about stretching and distortion, use the Scale tool. It will automatically add or remove steps. Building a dynamic component is as easy as using a spreadsheet. You can make any component dynamic and enable them to animate or smart scale.
SketchUp 7 has a new and improved link to the Google 3D Warehouse, which is going to make it easier for you to put your signature on your masterpieces, share them, show them off, and even collaborate with others. What’s more, go directly to the warehouse from your new component browser.
If you are an experienced SketchUp Pro user you can share your work with your clients through LayOut 2. You can create multi-page presentations and documents real quick, since LayOut 2 is speedier, handles text better and has a vector rendering feature.
With the new SketchUp 7, you will find it easier and quicker to turn out models. That’s because objects are even more intuitive, and know how to behave when you work with them. Edges automatically break other edges where they intersect. No more tracing over edges
Get click-happy with the new Interact tool. When you click on some of the Dynamic Components using the Interact tool, you can make them do all sorts of things like rotate, animate, move, change color, resize, and more.
With the new Component Options dialog box, you can reconfigure some dynamic components automatically without the mess.
Now you can even keep track of important metadata such as price, weight, or part number. This will make your models easier to embed in your workflow.
Every organization has its own style manual with information on house colors, logo, watermarks, layout styles, etc. Now you can save all this info in the new custom templates, so your entire team can access the information, and your branding will remain consistent.
Handling textures is even easier with the improved Position Texture Tool and the Match Photo. Now you can fit the texture or color you create onto a selected face through the ‘Make Unique Texture’ feature. You can even export the texture on a face as an individual texture with polygonal shape into a program like Photoshop and edit it..
During the conceptualizing stages of your design project, it’s a big help to have a sketch of your model on hand so you can discuss it with your client and your in-house team. What’s more, you can make your own unique sketches. You can draw them in crayon, technical pen, marker, pencil, burnt stick, ballpoint, pen and ink, gouache, or any other medium you want. This feature is something totally unique to Google SketchUp Pro 7.
