Ruby is a popular scripting language that was first introduced in SketchUp Version 4. Since then, Ruby scripts have been used in a variety of creative ways to make dozens of new tools for Sketchup and increase its functionality. SketchUp as a software programe, contains a Ruby application programming interface ( API) for users who are familiar with (or want to learn) Ruby scripting. This also enables hundreds of users worldwide extend the functionality of SketchUp. This interface allows users to create component generators and additional tools, to be included in the menus within SketchUp. Also, the latest version of SketchUp also includes a Ruby console, which is an environment where users can try out ideas with Ruby commands and methods
